One night in October a man was coming from hospital at about half past twelve.

    196
One night in October a man was coming from Hospital at about half past twelve. When he arrived at the Cross of Derk the horse stopped and began to drag the ditch with his legs. The man was greatly surprised but more so when he saw a puff of smoke up in the air and a coffin floating after it. When he passed he said, "The Lord have mercy on the Dead" and then he went home. He was very bent and worn and had to remain in bed for about nine months afterwards.
