  1. James McNamara lived in a place called Eyon and would be about 100 years now had he lived. He was locally known as Jim Mack and never let anyone have the last word. He was illiterate as he never went to school but was full of wit, resource and fun. He spent most of his time cutting turf in the bog of Eyon near which he lived. He was about 80 years when he died and was then almost bent in two but retained his faculties to the end.
    Stories told about him.
On the Sunday that the first choir sang Benediction in Boher Church where he attended mass he heard them sing the hymn "Immaculate " and thinking it was "Jim Mack you're late" he edged up towards the singers and shouted in rage
    "I was here before yerselves"
He was envious of his neighbours when he saw them reading the paper and he felt small when he had to ask them read & write his letters. He noticed that they always put on their glasses when reading & said "I couldn't read without my specs"
