Burns
1. Plasters for burns were made up by local women and consisted of fresh lard, horse dung, white of egg, laurel leaves, suet, unsalted butter and the bark of the elder. They were all boiled together and then left to harden. Before being used they were again rendered.
2. To stop a bleeding cut.
The blue part of a leaf which grows wild in the field. The name of the leaf is _____
3. Blood scour in cattle
The Comfy root boiled in water until it turns into jelly and then given to drink through milk. It must be strained before use & the roots must be scraped before boiling.
4. Three meals of nettles before the month of May were supposed to purity the blood.
5. Cough Cure
Flax seed, white of egg & lemon juice
6. Cure for cold. Boiled milk with pepper taken at bed time.
7. A pig was dosed through the toe of an old shoe
8. A cold key was placed at the back of the neck to stop nose-bleeding.
