  1. It is well known amongst the people of this district that a mare will sense or see spirits before a horse or human being.
If a horse is borrowed for working he must be brought in and out twelve times before he is taken home i.e. in and out of the field or garden.
A horse shoe is placed over the stable door for luck.
You must not send the servant boy to borrow a horse, the farmer or a member of his family must go.
A forge is an "airy place"(eerie) so before the horse goes to be shod, sprinkle holy water on him.
It is necessary to put a shamrock near the cow house for luck.
We must visit the cows, when they are housed during winter, before going to bed.
When a cow calves, an old spancil is placed on the spot, and in future there need be no worry when the same event is repeated.
The youngest horse must be put in the first stable.
