    potatoes, then it was put out on a large dish and a big hole put in the centre and a pound of butter put in it. Then each person is given a large spoon to eat it with, and a mug of butter milk, sometimes money of silver was put into it, you should eat it very slowly because you might swallow a sixpence or a shilling. Each person takes a spoonful at a time.
    Shrovetide week preceding Ash Wednesday, is a period of confession of preparation for lent.
