  1. Long ago in Bearna a ball of light used to be seen. A priest was going from Newcastle West to Abbeyfeale and he saw the ball of light. A lady came out of the light and came to the priest. The priest said to the lady "Go and drain a lake in Killarney with a pint jug". She came back again after seven years and he sent her to drain the sea with a bottomless thimble. She will never again return. She was called Sprid na Bearna.
