    scenes could be witnessed, there would be ill-feeling between the parents and children, and in such cases where the father succeeded in breaking the will of his offspring, the marriage, as likely as not, would prove to be unhappy.
    Dowries, in modern times, are usually composed of money, but in former times, they often consisted of cattle, goods, and other paraphernalia. If marriages ever took place in the houses, the people in the locality do not remember any such cases.
    The bridegroom, on the morning of the wedding-day, got a saddle-horse and rose to the Chapel, and the bride did the same. Tailing those, one or both parties as the case may be, went on side-cars. They were usually accompanied by a few men - and sometimes women- on horse - back. The ceremony completed, the married couple and the retinue started a race towards the bridegroom's house, where a wedding feast was prepared to celebrate the occasion. Later, strawboys would visit the house, disguised in many kinds of dresses and grotesque masks, and usually with a few traces of straw girded 'round their waists. Having dances and made merry for an hour or two, they are given refreshments, after which they return home.
