    The former won a seven mile race in Abbeyfeale some years ago. On that occasion the horse which the steward was riding got tired, when trying to keep in track of the runners, as it was in the country road the race was ran.
    Davy Hogan who lived in the Commons was both swift and daring. The day of the eviction in the Commons was one to be remembered. When the sheriff and his gang came to Hogan's, one of the bailiffs was so provocative that Davy took a spade handle, struck and knocked him. The police made to arrest him, but he ran for the river and jumped across into (?). The river being flooded, no one was able to cross it, so he made good his escape.
