    He looked around in every direction but no trace of any person could he see. He was just starting for home when he saw the dwarf on the tree. He knew now it was the dwarf that was doing evil upon him. They walked home together and the giants wife prepared food for them. When bedtime came they both went to bed. Next morning the giant told the dwarf to bring water. The dwarf would not bring it. Then he was told to gather faggot and he would not. That night the giant said to his wife that they should kill him, because he was doing nothing right. He heard them planning how they were to kill him. Luck was with him however. There was a small black calf lying in the corner of the room. He took the calf from where it was lying and put it into his own bed and the dwarf went in the calves bed. The giant went down in the room when he
