    for over twenty minutes before they could collect the butter off the milk. To do this they had sometimes to get a coarse strainer, or sieve and lift out the butter into the already prepared fresh spring water in a keeler.
    Churning day which took place only once a week was half a day's work.

  2. Herbs
    Certain food drinks and medicines can be made from different kinds of herbs.
    Splendid wine can be made from the Elder-berry by boiling it and adding sugar to sweeten it.
    Excellent invalid wine can be made from apples and beetroot which are boiled down and the juice of both mixed together.
    From the dandelion can be made wine, or when the leaves are stewed they are often served as vegetables
