  1. The people of Long Ago had a very different method of playing football from the way they play now. The teams which consisted of twenty one men lined up half way between the places from where the teams came from. The ball was thrown in and the teams rushed on it. Then they would kick it over hedges and ditches and the team to kick the ball home first would win the match. Captain Connor a big landowner of Ballybricken at that time was one of the leading men of this game in this Shanbally district.
