  1. At one time a flourishing industry was carried on in Rathermac. The remains of some of the machinery used may still be seen in what is locally known as "the tannery" a huge building with large boarded windows at the sides which are large boarded windows at the sides which are capable of being opened and closed. It is situated in the yard of Mr. John Curtin Junior, Main St, Rathcormac. The tan-yard was supposed to be owned by a man named William O'Connell and was closed down in the year 1851
