The following is a ballad connected with the trial and execution of Mr John Twiss a native of the Castleisland district who after many trials was finally condemned to death at the Cork County Assizes for the murder of James Donovan, Emergency man on the evicted farm of Keneally Glenlara Newmarket Co. Cork.
Farewell my dearest sister Jane, a fond and last adieu.
At the early age of thirty-five I now must part from you.
For the murder of James Donovan, I am condemned to die.
On the 9th of February '95 upon the scaffold high.

It was on the 21st of April in the year of '94
That is the night dear sister Jane, my loss you may deplore.
When I was taken prisoner and the Police to me did say.
For the murder of James Donovan we arrest you on this day.
