It was built six or seven hundred years ago, but is now in ruins. About eighty years ago some men were digging a trench quite close to the castle, and when they reached the depth of about two feet they came upon a circular iron plate with an inscription on it, apparently in a foreign language which they could not understand. They took the plate home with them. Some days afterwards a travelling hedge teacher called to the house. The plate was shown to him. He looked at the writing on the plate and saw that it was latin.
