"Lachten's Well" is situated in a field off the road midway between Newcastle and Firmount and is a well known place for cures. People with rheumatism, toothache, headache and children with children's diseases and several other complaints were known to be cured after paying "rounds" to this well. The usual thing to do was to go three times to the well, drink the water, after saying prayers and leaving a souvenir at the (with) well with faith in the goodness of God to cure the disease.
