  1. "The Kiln Wood" is (st) situated in the townland of Killard, in the North Parish, in the Co. Cork. It is so called because there was a lime kiln there once when lime was used extensively on the land. The lime burned in this kiln was taken from the adjacent quarry and it was supposed that this lime was of very good quality and all the farmers around the district got their supply there. There is a story told about this kiln. Late one night two tramps who were tired and weary strayed towards the kiln and finding it very warm they sat down to rest and sleep overcame them.
