    away and a sort of creamy scum remained in the vessel and this was dried in the sun and it was nearly as good as the starch nowadays. They used the starch in washing their clothes. The Starch Cake was nearly white in colour. For a family of eight they would need six small Stampy Cakes. They cut the cakes into slices and ate them with honey, or butter spread on the slices.
