    The friends, relatives, + neighbours then commenced an endless number of sprees - suppers - as they were called were made for the married couple + families. Sometimes as many as a dozen or more. Drinking, dancing + singing were carried out until day-light in the morning. As Shrove-tide the time at which all marriages took place-, was a rather idle time of the year, there was ample time for the entertainments.
