  1. Rathfuada derived its name from a long Rath or fort it was called Rath-fada at first and afterwards changed to Rathfuada. There are many fairy stories told about Rathfuada. In the field where the fort is people very oftentimes go astray. One night there was a dance in a house in Rathfuada and this boy left the dance to go home. He went across the fields and could not find his way out of the fields. Later on in the morning when the other boys were coming home they got him in a hole in the field saying his prayers.
There is another story told about the same place and its this - there was a fair in Frenchpark and we were living in Rathfuada at that time and my father went to Ballyglass for a boy to go to the fair with him. It was late when they were coming home from Ballyglass and they could not find their way. The Rathfuada boys had a foot - Ball and they thought they saw them them playing they kicked the ball to them and my father made a kick at the ball and he struck a lump of rushes and the saw no more and the got home all right.
