placed before Paddy a potato cake and a mug of tea. This did'nt relish with Paddy but hunger is good sauce so he had to make a meal of it or else go away hungry. When he had satisfied himself with the potato cake and tea he espied a book up on one of the shelves of the dresser. He immediately jumped up off his chair and commenced reading the book which was so interesting that he never heeded the hints given to him by the woman of the house. At last after many turnings and twistings on the floor she took down a hook and handed it to him. Paddy eyed it and eyed her also and he broke out into rhyme once more and
    here are the lines :-
I'll read the book by hook or crook
And I'll search for another master
But I curse the day I drank your tae
    And ate your sticking plaster.
We can see from the above, the fund of humour which existed in him. He had I must say smashed a brilliant career and would have added another illustrious name to the many thousands of our glorious Isle had he only wisdom to his many other gifts.
