Who, when he had slipped through our clutches,
Used whistle for all he was worth.
But one night we “ambushed” him cutely,
“Surrounded” him nice by degrees;
While he basked content on his haunches.
His “elbows” pressed down to his knees.
You think the sly clichead surrendered:
Not him – the old game “bit of craft”;
At shout of “Hands up” he just lifted
One hand to his whisker and laughed.
Our fingers advanced at the “double”,
And “crowded” him round with great care.
But the moment we thought we had trapped him,
He broke through “The lines” I declare.
He jumped on the top of my nose-bridge,
And taking a terrific spring,
He landed some where on the ceiling,
And merrily started to sing.
Next night he reclined on my pillow.
And as a reprisal ‘twas said,
He kept me awake until morning,
Crowing like a cock at my head.
We tried every plan we could think of,
We used every powder and fluid,
But all our endeavours were fruitless,
