  1. Marriages take place most frequently during Shrove in our district. May and November are thought unlucky for marriage. Match-making is connected with Shrove. A man is sent to look for a wife for another man they appoint to meet in town, and then the match is made. The man gives a bottle of whiskey to the man that asked the girl for him, and it is drunk in the girl's house that night. As a general rule a dowry is given by the woman's father to the man.
