    At that period some 250 to 300 weavers carried on their industry in Rosscarbery. (Weaving Coarse Woollen Fabric...)
    The weavers' wives (led by Mariah O'Mahoney) took a very prominent part in the combat.
    In a recent excavation for the purpose of opening the foundation of a large house a mound of bones measuring 20' by 8'' was discovered. These are locally believed to be the bones of the victims of
    "The Battle of Ross".
