    On St Stephens Day he was caught in the furze

    Get up a long laddy and finish your treat

    It will not agree with the wren boys at all
    And if you fill it on the best
    I hope your soul in heaven will rest

    It is all but a folly
    We hunted him up we hunted him down
    We hunted him three miles all over the town
    We broke his bones with sticks and stones
    And here is he here in our holly bush
    With a bunch of ribbons by his side
    And the Connagh boys to be his guide.
    Shake shake shake of the box all silver and no brass
    Up with the kettle down with the pot
    Give us our answer and let us be going
    The man of the house is a worthy man
    Into his house I brought my wren
    I brought the wren to visit him here to wish
