  1. Once upon a time there lived in the townland of Cullinagh which is situated three miles east of Skibbereen a landlord whose name was 'John Swanton'. He ruled his tenants with great severity. He had four men each for sixpence a day. They should do every thing that he told them or else he would dismiss them. He had a grand lawn in front of his house but in one corner was a graveyard since the time of the famine. He wanted to get this cleared away for he wanted to plant something in it.
    He told his servants that they should take away the stones but they did not want to do it. He told them that he would dismiss them if they did not do it. At last one person stood up and said that they would do it if he himself would raise the first stone.
