- (continued from previous page)Ath-Liag-na-Sinna or Ballyleague, and a such it has been used from the earliest times down to the present day. It lies almost in a direct line between Westport and Drogheda - two ancient port towns int he west and east or seland respectively.The ford derives its name Ath-liag from a heroic encounter which took place there, between Find with his followers on one side, and Flann the son of Eochaid Abraid Ruaidh with his followers on the other side. Sideing, the fair daughter of the noble Mongan, dwelling in the fairy hills of Kilgefin, was sitting on the hill of Crish, in the townland of Sheebane and saw from there the swaying struggle of the heroes at the ford. Taking a three sided, three angled, stone suspended from a chain of gold, she passed over the bog of Derrynaheltha and gave the stone to Find, as he stood on the(continues on next page)
