    He agreed to this arrangement for some time and they gave him a barn to teach in. His name was Darby O Doheny, but the people changed it later to Dooney, and some of his descendants were living in Carragooly till recently.
    At first when he commenced teaching in the barn some people laughed at him and made fun of him, but the wise ones sent their children to him and within a short time he had a big number of pupils.
    He taught in English but the language the children knew best was Irish. The subjects he taught were Reading, Writing, and Arithmetic. The children sat on the floor when they were working.
    Sometimes they had slates and pencils to write with, At other times they used flags to write on. There was no blackboard, but often the teacher
