  1. An old school
There was an old school built in the townland of Aughacarra about fifty years ago. It had a thatched roof and it was burned. They washed the floor and left the fire on overnight to dry it. A coal must fall out on the floor and set it on fire. It was burned in the year 1880. There was an examination to be held the following day and it was held in Thomas Lyons. There was a new school built in the year 1886. Master Garahan was the teacher.
