    The following story is told of a wager between one of the Harpers and Cosby of Cosby Hall...

    Castle. One of the condition being where one horse led the other should follow. Coming near Harpurs horse was leading. On coming to the banks of the Barrow he jumped into a small boat and was rowed across to the other side. His master had him trained to this and needless to say Harpurs horse won the wager as Cosby's was unable to follow him.

    Long ago before modern furniture was made sugan chairs were in use...

    Long ago before modern furniture was made sugán chairs were in use. The frame was made roughly of wood. The seat of which was made from twisted hay rope which were very comfortable to sit in. For the past half century they have gone out of use.
    The custom of dressing the May bush still survives in this locality. In years gone by egg
