  1. In Shanahoe James Moloney a travelling teacher used to teach children in the vestry at Shanahoe, He was paid by the children at the rate of a penny a week. The children wrote on slates then. It is not known where he lodged. There were only an odd book now and then,
    There was a hedge school in Boley. The teacher was Mr White he taught English & Irish. They wrote on slates. The children had to pay for the upkeep of the school.
