    where a new school has been provided under attended regulations.
    Ballyroan also boasts of a moat. It is cone-shaped in appearance and ascends to a considerable height. It is circular in form and flat on top.
    Here a castle is thought to have been, as on the margin of a loose folio vellum manuscript in Trinity College there is a note in Irish which states that Conal the son of David O Moore, King of Leix re-erected the Castle of Dunamace and built the castle of "Baile Atha na Roine" - supposed to have been a mistake for an Irish rendering of Ballyroan.
    A winding pathway or terraced passage winds around the sides to the topmost peak an from the lower level. A deep trencl [?] surrounds the raised enclosure which is planted over with trees.It presents a very picturesque appearance beside the village.
