    4. Tubrid Castle.
    about a mile to the South East of the school also belonged to the Shortalls. North of this old castle on the opposite side of the Road are the Ruins of
    5 Tubrid Chuch in the vicinity of which is a burial ground still in use.
    Almost 300 yards east of this church on the Road side is a heap of stones, where funerals always visited before the corpse was buried. The de profundis was Recited and the people present at the Funeral each cast a stone on the pile, before the coffin (with the corpse) was taken back to the church for burial. This custom died out about 40 years ago.
    North of Tubrid Castle is a large field called Bon a hampa. Here Mur ceartad camped for a night in his tour of Ireland in the tenth century.
    Convenient also to Tubrid Church is a well called Tubber Fádouchg. The old people say that St Patrick visited this place. One old man Edmond Compion
