    Note...I distinctly remember Mrs. Heffernan John's wife [about his own age telling me about twenty years ago that the "dye" used was "black" and that the material for its manufacture was got in the neighbouring bog - Moonabrogue.

  2. John Holohan (Newtown) Jer Kavanagh Balyring and Jim Corcoran Balief chief thatchers in district. Only one of these Kavanagh has it "handed down".
    Oaten straw and wheaten straw used. Wheaten supposed to be the better of the two. Scallops of hazel used.
    Not many thatched houses in district.
