The church is 110 years old, and when it was built Bennettsbridge was in the parish of Danesfort. It is now in the parish of Tullaherin.
The parish priest in Danesfort Church on a certain Sunday praised the people of Bennettsbridge. He said "that they knocked a Mill and built a Church in a week." It is said that there were 14 masons in the village at the time. The Church is dedicated to the Blessed Virgin
