  1. St. Martin is much honoured in this country. Nearly every housewife kills a hen or a cock on St. Martin's Eve in honour of him. Then they get the blood of the hen and the back of the doords are sprinkled with it. The sign of the cross in made on the doors.
    St. Martin was ground in a mill. He was a martyr. A year after St. Martin's death every mill in the country was ordered not to be worked and the custom prevailed for many years. The mill in which St. Martin was ground was closed up
