  1. About twelve or fourteen years ago there was an ambush on the side of the road near Barnacole. A lorry of Free State soldiers was passing by when some of the Black and Tans fired and shot a road man to whom the soldiers had given a lift.

  2. In ancient times people had to go to Castlecomer for coal. Once John Walsh known as Seán an t-Asail went with a horse and car for a load. When he was coming home John's horse got tired so John took the horse from under the car
