  1. Jimmy Plunkett was born at Kinard (about 1/4 or 1/2 mile from Elphin.) He was gentleman by birth and at heart a true Irishman. He married an English lady and they had a family of four children. They owned hundreds of acres of land.
    Jimmy took an active part in politics from his youth. He was a Major of the Irish army in the War of '98. Duelling was common at that period and he was called upon frequently to act as umpire. He was umpire at a duel, in Co. Laidroma, between Squires Reynolds and McKeon.
