    It is not nearly so familiar a sight nowadays to see children going barefoot to school in summertime as in years gone by; In fact those who can afford to go shod while their less lucky companion has to go barefooted sometimes sneer or cast a slur on their barefooted friend.
    Boots and shoes are repaired in the village of Emyvale by a man named Paddy Phillips, but this trade has not been a tradition in his family. He does not make footwear.
    The Misses Matson's father (now dead) who lived in the townland of Knocknasave was a shoemaker and also his father & grandfather before him.
    It is rare to see clogs wore about this district nowadays.
