  1. Old houses.
    The houses in the district in forner times were chiefly made from mud wall and thatched. There were mo houses slated at that time. Some of the people cut rushes for the thatch others thatched withe wheaten straw or oat straw. At that time the corn was all threshed with the flail. The most of the thatched houses at that time had a bed in the kitchen. The thatched huoses were only one story high and a kitchen. The bed in the kitchen was called a settle bed. It was placed up against the fire. In some houses with a large family a shake down bed was put in the corner. The shake down bed was usually a bag of the chimneys were made from clay and wattles. There are on the floor in the center of the house. There were accounts of houses which had no glass.
