   A faction fight took place on the 12th of July 1870 at Shanco near Emyvale. It was between the Orangemen and the Catholics. An Orangeman named Mc Mahon came out while the fight was going on. He had a rifle in his hand. His cry was "death or victory". He was shot himself from Knockam's hill. A woman who witnessed the fight would not tell who fired the shot that killed Mc Mahon. She was kept in gaol for a year.
