  1. Shops were not common in olden times.
    Money, that was given back when buying, was called change.
    Pedlars and dealers in feathers and rags were very common.
    Sovereigns have now gone out of fashion.
    Sometimes people go to the nearest town to make purchases. Money was usually given for the goods.
    It was considered unlucky to buy anything on Sunday. Certain names for coins, such as tanner and bog are still in use. Buying and selling were carried on after Mass.
    Tea, sugar, tobacco and whiskey were sold. Eggs were given in exchange for goods. Labour was given in exchange
