There is an ancient story told of the Blessed Virgin who lost the pin of her cloak and the Blacksmith made her a new pin. He dipped it in the trough to cool it. Then the Virgin blessed the water & it is said to be a cure for tooth-ache. Other hold the belief that to bathe the feet in it causes Chillblains. In the time of Conor Mc Neasa and Cuchullain, smiths were held in great esteem. The forge used to be and is still the place for local gossip.
