  1. Ye maidens all both great and small come listen unto me,
    Till I relate my doleful state and my sad destiny.
    I was courted by a comely lad but ah he left me soon.
    A broken hearted maiden on the hills of Magheracloone.
    II
    Many a pleasant evening beneath the hawthorn tree.
    I listened to his merry jokes of innocence and glee,
    But now alas those flattering words have almost proved my ruin.
    And left me here to mourn on the hills of Magheracloone.
    III
    Many a lonely night I spent behind the window blind.
    And often think I'd hear him come when ah twas but the wind,
    Or the rustling of the fallen leaves along the pavement strewn.
    'Twould remind me of when he'd call to see the Maid of Magheracloone.
