  1. Once upon a time there was a woman who lived in a cottage in the country. She was a widow and she lived with her son.
    One morning when she was going to mass she put on a goats head on for the dinner. She put some dumplings in with it. She told her son to look after it while she was away.
    Soon after she went away the goats head started to boil, and its mouth opened and the dumplings were going into it.The boy was frightened, so he ran off to tell his mother.
    When he reached the chapel he went in and then he saw his mother. When she saw him she began to wink at him to say nothing. When he saw her he said "you need not be winking or squinting if you don't hurry home the goat will have all the dumplings eaten.
