    after it. The people died of starvation. There are no ruins near our house where people lived who died during the famine. The people round our district had good crops of turnips and they lived on these until they got the Indian meal. Near where my mammie lived there was a man named Mr Barber who lived in Rahelly House, Cashelgarron, Co. Sligo and he had big big iron cauldrons and Indian meal porridge was made in them to feed the poor. The years of the Famine and his name are printed on the bridge going in the avenue to his house.
