  1. People used rush candles long ago They made them like this. They peeled out the coating of the rushes. Feadh they called a rush. They dipped the heart of the rush into grease and let it dry. They did this again and again until they had the candle as thick as they wanted The heart of the rush was the wick. The blacksmith made a candle stick and it could hold the rush candle.
