  1. (continued from previous page)
There used to be a number of yankees home every year, and they were a great success at the dances in the kitchen. The boys of the village would go in a body to them. They danced the "Sets", half-set or full set as the number and space allowed. And how they used to sing, and chain, and bow ; This particular yankee was in great request, and her lucky swain was having a great swing, when her hair got caught in a hook of a blouse that was hanging to dry on a line across the kitchen.
When next he looked upon her she was bald, the hook having held the wig ; and some gazed at the wig and others at the place it had been, all to the confusion of the poor girl who had been in heaven a few moments before.
