    Long ago the old people had to eat bread made from oats, rhye, barley and beans.

    porridge of it. They made other kinds of bread too out of potatoes. They call it potato cake. They make these cakes in this way. First they peeled the potatoes and mashed them with a masher. Then they make them into a dough, and mixed it with a pinch of salt and butter. They never put water or milk in it for it did not want it for it had juice enough from the potatoes, and butter.
    They made "stampy" from potatoes too. They had to peel them and then grate them with a grater. When they had that done the squeezed them in a white cloth and made it into dough. They put it in to bake then in a greased griddle. There are cuts put on top of a loaf of bread set to bake. They are put on it to make it easy to bake.
