   Shops were not common. People had to go to the nearest town to make purchases. Groceries were bought in towns. Goods were bartered and labour was given in exchange for goods. The words "boot", "tick", "change" "cant" are still used. Markets were always held in local towns. Hucksters, pedlars and ragmen visited the district before the Great War but not since. 6d Tanner, 1/- Bob 3d piece = goat's eye.
