The hides were put into pits containing oak-bark and water. They were left so for twelve months. After that time the hides were rolled and pressed between rollers to make the finished leather. - Candles were also made from rushes and fresh butter.Hand baskets were made by boiling black sally rods, taking off bark and weaving them according to design.
